The Upper Wharfedale Museum

An exhibition displaying over 90 prints taken from glass plates more than 110 years old, of Grassington and the surrounding area was staged in the village in 2013. Subsequently, a large selection of the photographs have been published in book form under the editorship of David Joy. Enquiries for the book can be made at the Museum and local bookshops.

Grassington was fortunate to have a number of photographers living in the area. Names like, the Grimshawe Bros, John Crowther, his son Maurice Crowther, and Woods.

The exhibition and the book demonstrate the high quality of the photographs, which they were able to take with the glass plate cameras of the late 1800s and early 1900s.
